The illustrations are large and bright. The story line is easy for my 2.5 year old to follow and sit through.
My daughter is 2 and loves this book. The pictures and story are very cute - I would definitely recommend to others.
This is a very sweet story about a group of friends who live together happily and cooperate very well together until one of them becomes dissatisfied with "the rules" or habits that become a ritual part of their lives. Duck wants to stir the soup. What to do. A good story on how people grow up and begin trying new things and families have to learn to adapt to the new found roles and skills of their members.
Even adults who get stuck in a rut. It is well worth it.
But I was wrong. This book does have quiet a few words, and at first that made me think it may not keep the interest of my preschool class.
Do not hesitate to buy. They absolutely love this book.
It is a great book that demonstrates friendship and teamwork. It has a great message that would be wonderful for a child of any age.
Enjoy.
Real characters with real feelings and vivid imaginations portrayed with flawless, humorous illustrations (we especially love when Squirrel and Cat envision Duck's new shop). he wants to read it and needs an excuse). Had I known, I would have found a hardcover edition. Most importantly, this book does not come off preachy - so I think it rings true with children.
This is the first book that my 9 year old will go to when he wants to read to her (e.g. I did not know the extent to which my daughter would come to love this book when I purchased it. The colors of the artwork are warm and orange - just like pumpkin soup. We have made pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin ravioli. It is a warm tale about friendship, sharing, and overcoming conflict/compromise.
You feel like you are peering in on their lives (like the two little bugs that appear on every page). and. Let me just say, this is the first book that my almost 4 year old memorized (word for word). In fact, my daughter uses this book to relate sharing issues - all I need to say is "remember how Duck wanted to use Squirrel's special spoon." and she gets it - instantly. It handles conflict naturally (e.g.
real characters that really argue and act just like my kids). And - for some odd reason - my children are now fascinated with pumpkins and want to cook. Pumpkin soup - The Best You Ever Tasted.
